How to measure your wrists

Your wrist is measured at the wrist bone, with one finger slipped between the wrist and the tape measure, as for the neck. Measure both wrists: on the watch side, add 1 cm at most, never more. At Swann, a Parisian made-to-measure shirt house, we show you how to take it on video.

How to take the measurement

One of the essential steps in getting the right measurements for your men's shirt is measuring your wrists.

Measure your wrist by placing the tape measure at the wrist bone, keeping one finger between the wrist and the tape measure.

Tips

A few more pointers to get it right

  • If you would like a wider cuff on the side where you wear a watch, add 1 cm to the measurement taken on that wrist. With more than a centimetre of difference between the two wrists, it is likely to show, and the sleeve will also fall onto your hand, which does not look right.

Frequently asked questions about the wrist measurement

Where should the tape measure go to measure the wrist?

At the wrist bone, with one finger slipped between the wrist and the tape measure to leave the ease needed.

Should I measure both wrists?

Yes. The two wrists can differ slightly, and a made-to-measure shirt is adjusted cuff by cuff.

How do I allow room for a watch?

Add 1 cm to the measurement of the wrist on which you wear your watch, no more. Beyond a centimetre of difference between the two wrists, the gap becomes visible and the sleeve falls onto the hand.

How can I tell if a shirt cuff is the right size?

Buttoned, it stays in place on the wrist bone without sliding down over the hand. Unbuttoned, the sleeve falls slightly onto the base of the thumb.
