Beige Quilted Vest

Beige Quilted Vest

Ref:GIBL0024AH25

Beige Technical Fabric Sleeveless Vest – Quilted, button closure, slanted side pockets.

The quilted vest was born from a very simple need: to stay warm without feeling restricted.

Long before it appeared, men were already wearing wool or tweed waistcoats to face the cold. In the countryside, hunters, winegrowers and foresters alike relied on them for extra warmth without adding weight or limiting movement. The principle is simple and effective: keep the torso warm while leaving the arms free.

In the mid-20th century, with the arrival of new materials and lighter manufacturing techniques, this country vest began to evolve. Tweed and heavy wool gradually gave way to a more modern solution: quilting. A simple technique in which two layers of fabric enclose an insulating filling, held in place by stitching that creates regular patterns, often diamonds. The result is highly practical: a garment that is light, flexible and warm — far more comfortable than a heavy jacket.

In the 1960s, these quilted vests became widespread in the British countryside, particularly in the worlds of hunting and riding. Worn by horsemen, farmers and gamekeepers, they quickly became an emblematic piece of the English country wardrobe.

As often happens with functional garments, their use did not remain confined to the countryside and eventually made its way into the city. The vest naturally found its place in a casual wardrobe: worn over a sweater, under a coat, or simply with a shirt on cooler days.

It is in this spirit that we designed the Swann quilted vests. The quilting provides just the right amount of warmth, while the cut remains clean enough to be worn equally well over a sweater or under a jacket.
